Holly Hock

#Hollyhock has the perfect colours for the Autumn season. The yellow/gold elevates the ruby flowers and the white looks like lace-ribbons creating depth in the pattern. At first I thought the back-drop could be black if I wanted it to be, but after family consultation we decided it is really navy/ink blue. I wear it as a jacket with a navy blouse, navy blue wide-leg-pants and silver ballerinas or dark jeans and white sneakers. This is a 1X Long. I am 1,81m/ 5,11''

I wore Hollyhock to the hair salon, and predictably got comments on the cheerful design. My hair cutter noted the smooth, close weave of the kitenge cloth, and considered how easily it would shake off cut hair throughout her day. She may be a new Zurista soon!

I love the cheerful print, and how it fills a color niche in my collection. Dark wash jeans go well with the midnight blue floral element in the fabric.

A color note: The centers of the flowers appear red to camera sensors in many photos, but they are burgundy throughout.

Initially upon seeing Hollyhock I liked it a lot, but did not buy it, as I have plenty of florals. Then I began to see it on my fellow Zuristas on the BST site and I was taken by the intensity of the darker flowers- their random placement and larger size, combined with the deep, rich claret of their petals, seemed like a page from an early twentieth century nature walker's sketchbook. After some consideration, I have concluded that Hollyhock's pattern is somewhere between highly stylized and organic. I enjoy the visual tension.
