Meet our production partner, SOKO Kenya! Based in Kikambala on the Kenyan coast, they are an ethical manufacturer that truly embraces a fair, kind and transparent work culture. We’re so proud of this collaboration with Cheikhouna, a master dyer, and his family in Dakar, Senegal to create a collection of hand-dyed textiles using traditional stitch-resist and wax-stamped techniques! Learn more about how these fabrics are made here!

Cheikhouna uses a stitch-resist technique called sitiba, in which the design is hand-stitched into the fabric before dyeing. As you can guess, this is a very time-consuming practice, but the results are stunning! Sitiba is rarely produced anymore not only because of the amount of time it takes, but because of the complexity of the technique. Cheihkouna is one of the last dyers in Dakar who practices this centuries-old technique, and while he trains apprentices, he stitched every piece of fabric for our production himself.
You may be more familiar with wax resist, otherwise known as batik! The natural materials that Cheikhnouna uses to create his dyes make his batiks and sitiba fabrics extra special!

I liked the blue and white of this dress in the pictures, and thought it would be perfect for summer and travel. I know the colors vary with each, but when I received my dress I really liked that the white parts of the design actually were lighter blue, like the color had run into the white, and I prefer it that way! It's a different texture than my other Zuri dresses, which I suspect will become drapier with wear.

I love Zuri’s batiks, but this is one of my absolute favorites! I love the color (blue is my fave), the print, and the feel of the dress! The fabric is beautifully lightweight and airy. I styled it with the collar folded down, a white camisole, navy tights, and brown booties. Looking forward to wearing this dress in warmer weather with ballet flats, espadrilles, or white sneakers.

Rhapsody in Blue is so lovely! I thought when I first saw it that it would be only a summer dress, but paired with pants and boots it's actually the perfect antidote to a gray rainy February day. It's just the right mix of stiff and soft, so it actually feels kind of a like a hug from warmer climates. The deep royal blue is vibrant and eye-catching, and on my version, the lighter sections are a pale blue rather than a bright white. I love the horizontal pattern on the sleeves, too. If you're on the fence about this one - get it! I will make you smile.
