Meet our production partner, SOKO Kenya! Based in Kikambala on the Kenyan coast, they are an ethical manufacturer that truly embraces a fair, kind and transparent work culture. As is often the case for me, I don't notice a particular dress until another Zurista posts a photo of it and suddenly it comes into focus. Skylark revealed itself to me that way; and the wondrous Zuri team generously helped me find the pattern placement that spoke to me: a feeling of flow, as if the strands of different colors are reeds in a stream, flowing harmonioulsy. The literal inteleaving of petals of different colors creates an effect of depth and motion. And the diversity of hues opens up lots of possibilities for pairing with shoes and accessories. It is a joy to add this beauty to my collection.

Opening day for my first solo show at @MFAH @Glassell School of Art in the Houston Museum District. My exhibit - largely oil painting on stretched canvas - is called Bodies of Water and is housed on the third floor Orton Gallery of this award winning building. I walked up the stairs to the roof to look down at both my work and the city skyline - I am not sure but there must have been a skylark fluttering close by. Colors are more saturated and deeper toned in person than on the website photos. Substantial fabric but it’s soft. The twinkle light yellow dots throughout combined with the white line details give the pattern a lot of contrast and movement. Im reminded of butterfly wings and impressionist paintings especially when looking at the print from a distance.
I was expecting to get the dreaded duvet cover vibes with this print, but I find myself loving it a lot now that I see it in person. I always get compliments when wearing Zuri, but this dress in particular gets a lot of positive feedback from total strangers as well as from my colleagues when I wear it to work.
